The Third Thought is dedicated to creating truthful long form improv. Since forming in 2011 through a random series of incidents, the Third Thought has been celebrating the randomness of life at venues including the Del Close Marathon, American Stage, Coconut's Comedy Club. The Third Thought brings something new and different to Tampa Bay as one of the region's only long-form improv groups.
Comedy nerds know Del Close as the hugely influential father of long-form improv. Every year, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York hosts a weekend-long marathon to keep Close’s memory alive and kicking in the minds of younger comics.
The 13th annual Del Close Marathon took place last weekend in New York. It featured artists and improv groups like Horatio Sanz, Derrick Comedy, writers from the Colbert Report … and Tampa Bay’s own long-form improv troupe The Third Thought.
I love Improv Festivals. They remind me of how fun the improv community is and how much talent is out there.
The DCM13 was no exception, with amazing teams performing 24/7 and an overwhelming amount of things to do at the three theatres and in the City in general.
It was great to bring a team from Florida up to play in the big leagues and have a blast doing it, and it was a fantastic networking opportunity. I love meeting people I have read about and people I respect and having an actual conversation with them in a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is on the same level.
It also confirmed my desire to do improv, and do it big. Hey, people are improvising daily as it is, might as well put it on stage. Its the realest theatre you can watch.
